RIDE THE ROUTE

There will be a group ride of the route on April 21, 2023. Visit the Northwest Competitive Adventure page for more information. I also encourage you to do it whenever you have the time and desire. As long as you know how good, bad and unpredictable the weather can be in the Southern Appalachians throughout the year, it's a four-season route.

Historically, the first Friday of November has always been the recommended day to set off. This ensures the most likely peak leaf color as well as making it easy on our endlessly generous hosts at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp. If you need someone to tell you when to go, this is the date to start.

There is very spotty cell service on this route. In fact, the first 100 miles have as much unreliable connectivity as I've experienced in most of the world. I recommend anyone undertaking this route use a satellite tracking device such as a Spot or Garmin InReach for safety. You can rent a spot from Trackleaders and also (SOON) sign up for the route so your family and friends at home can track your progress.
